BEFORE(YOU)
Before there was you, there was me.
With my ponytails and bubblegum grins.
The version of me that thought love should always be bubbly and fun,
something to enjoy in the moment,
not ask me where i want to be in 5 years.
I couldn't imagine holding on to something that had an expiration date.
We would dance together, and once the song is over,
With my ponytails and bubblegum grins.
The version of me that thought love should always be bubbly and fun,
something to enjoy in the moment,
not ask me where i want to be in 5 years.
I couldn't imagine holding on to something that had an expiration date.
We would dance together, and once the song is over,
we would easily let go of each other, and move on to the next.
It should be fireworks and bright colors,
like constantly chasing the next high.
A beautiful collage handed to me, not a puzzle for me to solve.
Light, simple, easy.
I read of hearts always in tune with each other,
and lovers that did everything each other wanted,
but none of the books said anything about compromise.
I learnt about love in the movies.
The way hands brushed, the little giggles and butterflies.
All the movies said it would be happily ever after.
You would meet someone in the perfect place,
at the right time,
do all the things you like with them,
everything would be perfect.
It wasn't supposed to catch you off guard, right?
They called him Storm,
and like a storm does, he swept me off my feet,
but not in bridal style.
I didn't understand how words ceased to come from the mouth,
but spilled from the eyes instead.
The thing I was most unaware of,
is that sometimes you can stay stuck on a chapter,
without knowing how to close it,
without wanting to…
